word of from a exp player

1. Fiery Dragon Swords are the ulimate indicator of a PvE Noob 2nd only by a W/Mo with mending

2. Axe and shield good for PvE

3. Hammer is good for PvP (depends on the build really)

In PvE, it's likely you'll be tanking quite a bit, so it's probably best to use a sword or axe so you can have a shield. Hammers are fine, but their main strength (knockdown) isn't so useful against lousy monster AI. In terms of damage, they're all pretty balanced. Looks are entirely subjective, so take your pick.

Dont worry FDS are fine.... dont listen to the first poster lol. They may scream noob to some people but some like them cause they look pretty cool.

In terms of different swords and axes and hammers... I use all of the following
Elemental dmg weapon like you have
Zealous
Vamp
Sundering(only for axe)
Furious

The idea is some builds you'll want that zealous weapon as some many use more energy then others... Vamp when you want to deal a very nice DPS... Sundering axe for those spikes (works sometimes)... Furious when you want a chance to gain more adrenline faster.
And of course use the elemental dmg mod vs another warrior.. this way you bypass another +20 armor. (look at your armor and the additional +20 vs physical attacks)

as for pve stick with sword or axe.... if you're feeling wild... go hammer lol

in pvp people use sword/axe/hammer so try to get used to them all as for shields a 20% less blind shield and +30 is always good.

Probably a sword or an axe in PvE. I do little PvP so I can't help you there.

My W/Mo uses an axe. Basically:

Axe = More damage, but more unstable (the amount of damage you do in one hit could be 34 and then 5 the next swing).

Sword = Less damage, but more stable (less likely you'll be alternating between high and low numbers).

There are good AND bad things about each of the 3 weapons that I hope to explain in this post.

SWORD- constant, moderate damage per second [DPS]; good for inflicting conditions easily (bleeding, cripple, deep wound); less spike damage than the other weapons; shield offhand for more protection against physical damage at the least

AXE- easy application of deep wound; other conditons requiring deep wound or knockdown [KD] (weakness, cripple, or bleeding for KD); large differential of minimum and maximum damage providing a very high spike damage or mediocre damage at best; shield offhand for more protection against physical damage at the least

HAMMER- Knockdowns; highest damage output per attack; easy application of weakness but only 1 skill that causes deepwound (Crushing Blow); slowest attack speed yet still high spike DPS with an increase attack speed modifier; no shield resulting in less protection against physical damage

Go for Sword are Axe, you can pick up 15^50 swords and axes with crappy skins for a few ks nowadays, Hammer in pve isnt the best as you should be taking all the dmg in the party, so a shield will help reduce te dmg

In terms of actual damage for a Warrior weapon, it generally pans out like:

SWORD: Decent constant damage, with the ability to chain powerful sword strikes (check out [skill]Dragon Slash[/skill]). Less damage range with a steadier damage output.

AXE: Decent constant damage, surpasses Sword at higher ranks of Axe Mastery due to greater damage on critical hits. Attacks generally focus around spikes that deal great damage in a short amount of time.

HAMMER: Higher constant damage due to much higher damage range on max hammers. A powerful disruption tool, with the ability to keep a foe on the ground by chaining knockdown attacks.

All 3 weapons can lay a Deep Wound on your foe, which is a very powerful aid in killing an enemy. Axes have the easiest time of this, as Sword and Hammer need a prerequiste to cause DW (bleeding and Knockdown, respectively).

Overall, it's best to be able to switch between each type of weapon, but if you must choose one - Sword if you own the Factions campaign (Dragon Slash is ftw PvE-wise) and Axe if you don't.

As for mods for a weapon, it's best to have several weapons to switch to. An elemental-damage weapon (like your Dragon Sword) is a good choice to use against enemy warriors as it bypasses their bonus vs. physical damage. Also, Vampiric weapons are useful for their higher damage output and furious weapons are good for the utility. Also, a Zealous axe is a wise choice for use with Triple Chop + Cyclone Axe.
The damage mod is generally 15% ^ 50 or 15% Stanced, personal preference here (after all, you really oughtta be in a speed boost or attack speed increase stance all the time). I generally use 15^50, because there's a lot of Dervishes and skellie warriors spamming Wild Blow.
The last mod is preferably either Of Fortitude for the +health, giving you a larger buffer against armour-ignoring damage (assassin attack chains notably) and degen; or Of Defense (+5 AL) for a cumulatively powerful damage reduction against general damage (notably auto-attacks and Elementalist spells).

And as for coolest-looking weapons... I like the Desolation Maul a lot, alongside Wingblades and Gemstone Axes. Personal preference here, everyone has their own favourite skins.

Zealous or Sundering - Axe
Zealous, Furious or Vampiric - Sword

I prefer swords as the skins are better imo. I love my Shadow Blade :P
Its up to you, but never stop using a skin if someone tells you, cos in the end its the skin that matters, and FDS's own!!

Those scream noob who e-bayed gold - that's WAY worse than simply being a noob.

As long as it is max damage and max *usable* mods there is nothing other than a skin. In that case, use what you like. The above listed skins are *really* expensive so they are mostly relegated to those who farm high end areas a lot or people who purchased gold (some, however, will have gotten them legitimately and especially in the case of the Mallyx Reaver is quite impressive). FDS are "noob" in that the same e-bayers like them.

But then, who cares? Frankly, if someone is sure of your ability in game based on the skin of your weapon it shows much more about their inability to grasp simple basic principles of GW than than anything else. A skin doesn't change anything but looks. I prefer to show off my skill (or lack thereof) by how I play.

See many above posters for a good comparison, personally I prefer an axe (/r poison triple chop/cyclone axe or eviscerate) though for a pure tank in PvE a riposte/deadly riposte warrior can be quite effective (there are some really nice solo farming builds with it). For AoE damage the sword warrior also has Hundred Blades - not nearly as good as the Axe AoE but not really bad either. One of my heroes runs the build quite well, if the AI can do it so can a human. Look at builds and see which ones you want to run and go from there.

Ouch, dayredfern, I feel sorry for you :P

IMO mods:
Sword ~ Furious for a dragon slasher, vampiric and zealous for general use
Axe ~ Vampiric and Zealous
Hammer ~ Usually sundering, zealous for select builds

You'd do well to pick up an elemental mod (icy, fiery, ebon, shocking) for killing warrior monsters, they have +20 armour vs physical damage and the elemental mod negates this.

There is no best type of weapon, try out them all.

You haven't listed what campaign you have, or at what stage you're at so I can't really give some accurate advice..

starter builds:
Sword ~ Sever Artery, Gash, Final Thrust
Axe ~ Dismember, Executioner's Strike, Critical Chop/Protector's Strike
Hammer: Counter Blow, Crushing Blow, Mighty Blow

Try get these elites to enhance:
Axe ~ Evicerate (prophecies)
Sword ~ optional
Hammer ~ devastating hammer (switch mighty blow for fierce)

Sword is greatly enhanced by factions with Dragon Slash (switch final thrust for sun and moon slash), axe by prophecies (evicerate) and nightfall (critical chop), hammer with prophecies (crushing blow). Don't bother using axe if you have only factions, or hammer if you don't have prophecies, they are missing the things that make them decent.

~ Max out your weapon mastery
~ Don't stock up on defensive stances or skills, you're playing the class with the potential for the highest damage in the game, use it! 99% of the time you don't need any defensive skills at all. If you need a heal for whatever reason, take healing signet
~ Stick to being a warrior, use skills that will enhance your warrior, not sidetrack it. Plague Touch to rid yourself of conditions or Splinter Weapon to grant some AoE damage are some examples.

Well thats some confusing advice.. lol

Good luck

Also, if you're into mob farming, go axe.

Mob farming = Aggro many monsters, usually melee, and by using defensive stances such as [skill]Gladiator's Defense[/skill] and multi-target skills such as [skill]Cyclone Axe[/skill]. Things such as [skill]Vigorous Spirit[/skill] and [skill]Bonetti's Defense[/skill] help you keep health and energy up while doing damage to several enemies at once.

There you go, I just told you some of the key elements of Troll/Griffin (Which is now dead)/Minotaur farming!

Go with the pretty stuff...

As the other folks said... Axes and Swords (dependant on taste) for PvE, Hammers more PvP...
All are quite capable of being pretty.

When it comes to skins... Fiery Dragon Sword might look pretty but its common as muck, and "pretty" doesn't mean much if everyone has one. Icy Dragon Sword is a similar but slightly rarer alternative. Just remember about those two though: They've got irremovable elemental damage... fine against enemy Warriors but less effective against Rangers. [Though Fiery Dragon Sword will help against enemies hexed with Mark of Rodgort, and Icy Dragon Sword is perfect against enemies hexed with Spinal Shivers]...

So... the skins...
My suggestion is to avoid the really popular ones, not only because if you try to buy them they will be much more expensive, but also what I said earlier regarding "pretty" things.

At least for swords, my recommendations are to try either the Celestial Sword or the Oni Blade... both of which are very nifty-looking in different ways (additionally, for optimum appearance match the Celestial Sword with a Celestial Shield... and the Oni Blade with a Bladed Shield... and dye your armour to match [Purplish for Celestial, Black for Oni])...

As for Axes... I'm not so familiar, though once again the Celestial Axe is quite nifty, as is the Zodiac Axe (if you can get one, which is a little difficult considering they come from the Canthan Elite areas). There is also a unique Green axe you can get after beating Shiro that looks particularly nice.

[Note: All this is from Factions, which makes up about 80% of my GW experience.]

There is no best weapon aside from unconditionals. It depends on your build.

You can ask about the uses and differences between weapon mods here. As a bunch of people arguing over weapon skins makes for retarded discussion, closed.
